Its official…the dog days of summer are upon us in Austin and outdoor event season slows for the peak summer heat. Of course there’s Blues on the Green which continues tonight at Zilker Park with Alejandro Escovedo and J Squared Services will be there, tapping into park power for stage audio, lighting and electrical distribution equipment for the food vendors on site.

J Squared Services has been extremely busy this year providing rental generators, outstanding on site support and air conditioning services this year. 2010 provided J Squared Services with an exceptional opportunity to become more involved with South by Southwest Music Festival as we provided electrical services, onsite technicians and fueling services at over 50 venues, showcases and private parties throughout Austin during the week.

One of the most notable developments for J Squared Services this summer has been the unfortunate fire at The Barr Mansion. J Squared Services was able to work hand in hand with the venue and Marquee Event Group to construct an air conditioned tent on the grounds to ensure that all events could continue uninterrupted. Their rental package includes a 140kW LitePower generator and two 20 ton in wall air conditioning units. During the time of the rebuild J Squared Services will provide fuel service in addition to on site consultation and service to our equipment while on location. Check out the pictures here!

J Squared Services has also been extremely busy in the early summer months providing air conditioning and production power services for several weddings, Blues on the Green, Art City Austin, University of Texas Athletics, Austin Wine and Music Festival, and many more corporate events and concerts.

2009 has come and gone and we here at J Squared Services closed out last year with two special holiday gatherings that have become tradition here in Austin, TX.

First we provided generator power for the Asleep at the Wheel & Friends Holiday Sing Along on Dec. 21st in conjunction with City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department and C3 Presents. J Squared Services powered stage lighting, tour busses, the PA system and the scenic tree up lighting around the location of the concert.

J Squared Services also rang in New Year at First Night Austin, and provided generator power for lighting displays on the First Street Bridge along with sound and lighting at the Auditorium Shores portion of the event. Both of these events were well attended despite the winter weather in Austin and J Squared Services was glad to provide our expertise.

Now on to new business! Austin is starting to buzz about the 2010 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film, Interactive and Music Conferences and Festivals. If you are a producer, promoter, band, event planner, product launcher, have a special showcase or just want a generator because it sounds cool...we are your guys! Every year we get more involved in the SXSW festivities by providing rental generators, electrical distribution equipment, air conditioning and experienced event technicians for on call service. There is no place like Austin, Texas… and at no time of the year is this more apparent than late summer and early autumn when the events really start picking up. The beginning of the school means football and we’ve been lucky enough to work with The Marquee Event Group for some serious tailgating at the LBJ Lawn for all home games this year. Speaking of home games, J Squared Services has also been busy renting generators for Longhorn Soccer games as well as providing back up power for Longhorn football games that are televised this season.

J Squared Services also was proud to provide air conditioning and generator power for the Art House Austin Gala at the corner of 7th and Congress Avenue in a 40’x120’ tent that spanned a small parking lot. We managed to load in 60 tons of air conditioning and powered the AC, catering, tent lighting and music for an event with a tricky location and tight schedule.

What would fall in Austin be without the annual Austin City Limits Music Festival? J Squared Services worked with C3 Presents and provided literally miles of electrical cable, air conditioning for the first aid station and generator rentals to help fire up Zilker Park for the 3 day event.

The heat of summer has kept us here at J Squared Services hard at work with a number of unique air conditioning jobs. This month we had the opportunity to air condition The Zilker Clubhouse. This venue is one of the most distinctive in Austin, with spectacular views of Ladybird Lake, Zilker Park and downtown Austin.

J Squared Services also supported two high end private parties. One was a large event with a challenging setup on an extremely high end estate in Austin.  The setup required over 600kW of power generation, nearly 7,000 feet of cable, and 60 tons of event air conditioning equipment.  All of which had to be carefully installed so that it would be both out of site and not cause any damage to the manicured landscape or delicate stonework.  The lighting and décor may have come from Hollywood, but the temporary power and air conditioning was able to be handled right here in Austin.  The other event was a weekend long birthday celebration at a private ranch in Lampasas, TX with a 4000 square foot air conditioned tent, generator power for lighting, catering power, and audio video; along with on-site technicians.  Both property owners were ecstatic with the performance and care taken on their property. 

One other interesting air conditioning job was for a wedding at the Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel, where J Squared Services and Marquee Events air conditioned tents that were set on the second floor balcony overlooking Congress Ave. and our state’s capital.

J Squared Services was also invited to partner with Caplan Miller Events to provide electrical service for The Knot Party, which was held at Austin Museum of Art Laguna Gloria.

The first half of July has kept J Squared Services running to meet the demands of two large concerts and a number of smaller private parties. J Squared Services worked in conjunction with LD Systems to power sound and lights for the 4th of July Freedom Festival at Ft. Hood, the largest military post in the United States. Total attendance on site was over 100,000 and the audience included several high ranking US Army officials, which raved about the success of this year’s event.

J Squared Services also provided generators and distribution at The Dell Diamond for their 2009 Freedom Fest and fireworks display. Jerry Jeff Walker headlined the bill with support from Kelly Pickler and over 5,000 fans were in attendance.

J Squared Services also had equipment and expert technicians in several outlying communities including Bee Caves, Lago Vista and Marble Falls, TX during this busy weekend.

Blues on the Green series has kicked off again with a move from Zilker Park to downtown’s Waterloo Park. This is BOTG’s 19th season with 6 shows on alternating Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. This is Austin’s longest running live music series and it’s a great time for every age spectator.

J-Squared Services also travelled to El Paso in June to power the Edwin McCain / Everclear show at The Centennial Club on base at Biggs Army Field. June also found J-Squared Services powering events at the UT Golf Club, The Reserve on Lake Travis and on campus at the University of Texas for the UIL Track Meet.

J Squared Services has had another busy month powering events and providing temperature control for our loyal clients. Some of the local projects we’ve worked on this month include the Austin Wine Festival, Mueller Parade of Homes and The March of Dimes Fun Run in addition to a number of local concerts, wedding receptions, and parties.

For the third year running J Squared Services provided 260 tons of air conditioning, 675 kW of power and over one mile of cable for the Paramount and State Theatre’s annual Gala. This event featured 650 ft. of tenting over two blocks on Congress Ave. in downtown Austin with Boz Scaggs providing entertainment for the attendees. J Squared Services successfully loaded all equipment in and out over a 20 hour period. We are extremely proud of this effort and the flawless execution by all J Squared Services employees.

Some of our regional set-ups this month included Game 4 between the Dallas Mavericks and the Denver Nuggets at The American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX and the Valero Classic Golf Tournament at the prestigious LaCantera Golf Resort in San Antonio.

J-Squared Services is pleased to announce we will be working with Art Alliance Austin to power both Art City Austin and Art After Dark. Both events will be Saturday April 25th along Cesar Chavez from the First Street Bridge to Colorado Street in downtown Austin.

 Art City Austin is our city’s premiere celebration of innovation and creativity. Over 220 local, regional and national artists will showcase their creations in Austin’s longest running art fair. Later that evening, Art City Austin will transform into Art After Dark on the S. First Street Bridge. Select visual artists will be showing their talents while  the always entertaining Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears take the stage along with DJ Chicken George.

J-Squared Services will also be working the 6th Annual Texas Round Up, which will take place on Saturday April 25th in downtown Austin. Texas Round-Up is an independent not-for-profit organization working to improve the health of Texas through education and promotion of physical activity and healthy living. Texas Round-Up provides Texans with tools, opportunities, and programs that encourage and allow for Texans of all ages and fitness levels to participate.

J-Squared Services, in conjunction with C3 Presents recently wrapped up The 2009 Texas Medal of Arts Award Ceremony at Austin’s Long Center for the Performing Arts. This bi-annual celebration honors Texans that have made outstanding contributions through creative talents and philanthropic generosity. This year’s honorees included filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, country superstar Clint Black, and the world famous Austin City Limits program, among others.

J-Squared Services has also been contracted to power the 2009 Batstravaganza Fun Run and Family Festival, which is a non-competitive 5K fun run and walk for participants of all athletic ability. Funds raised from this year’s event will benefit Hope Alliance.

Additionally, J-Squared Services will be working on the 24th Annual Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival which kicks off Thursday April 16th and convenes on Sunday April 19th. J-Squared Services will be providing power for Friday night’s Stars Across Texas Grand Food Tasting in addition to the Sunday Fair, which will be held at The Vineyards at The Salt Lick in Driftwood, TX.

South by Southwest 2009 is here and J Squared Services has been contracted to provide biodiesel powered generators for several outdoor SXSW shows.  J Squared Services has also been contracted to provide climate control and show power in an 18,000sf building for the C3 party to be headlined by Jane’s Addiction, as well as the Dell/Perez Hilton party.
